Randomness as a way
For people who cannot work with the usual “to do list” approach, it can be very hard to properly build a momentum or a drive that runs the motivation. However, maybe we can understand tasks, routines, or actions through the lens of randomness.
Social Media Algorithms are a good example; we know for sure that they aren’t 100% random, as they feed into what we interact with. Even then, the algorithms would still show us video clips of something that is unpredictable, surprising, and intimidating. How about we translate this concept into our lives?
Randomness is the main drive for a lot of people; it is the reason why algorithms work and why people love extreme sports. We sometimes belittle this concept entirely because it works in the background without our knowledge. But randomness is the only way we can move forward or progress.
I think a lot of self-help books or so-called YouTube productivity creators miss this point in their “building habits” videos. Most people have a hard time understanding what the task is and the final step into actually doing it. Because many people are intuitively not born to embrace orderliness or organization, we always walk with chaos wherever we go.
Much of the content we see on social media regarding productivity or building routines is absolutely unrealistic for the majority of people. In truth, the model of reality that people tend to see is through the lens of chaos and unpredictability. It is unfortunate that we do not live in an environment that caters to these groups. We live in a world where we can know for certain the results or outcomes driven by automation processes that do not know emotion or rebellion.
It is irrational that we must unconsciously submit ourselves to these ‘demands’. Where is the human touch that was put into carving wooden toys when we were children? Where is the human aspect of the things we see every day?
That is why I think the way we consider motivation, drives, or purpose should be directed into human-oriented end goals. The ‘purpose’ which we copied, derived, and looked up to comes from artificially constructed ideas spread around as if they hold any meaning besides submitting ourselves to bigger organizations with interests in profiting from human labor to ascend a staircase of human hopes.
